LEARN ABOUT OUR
WHEEL BUILDING

WE BUILD OVER 2000 WHEELS PER SHIFT.

It starts with the hubs.
Step one is the hub lacing process. Our specialized machinery efficiently places spokes into each wheel hub.
Next, spokes are inserted.
Hubs are made into a bare rim by using a machine to hold and spin the rim, so the technician can insert all of the spokes into each wheel.
Then, nipples are threaded.
After the spokes are inserted, a technician places the wheel into a special machine designed to thread nipples onto the spokes.
"Wheel building is an integral part of the process here at BCA. We have a team of 35 people working solely on making sure these wheels are built and trued properly. Without these hardworking people, building full bicycles here would be impossible."
Edgar TaBon, Director of the Wheel Building Department

Rim tape is applied.
Tape is added to the inner section of the rim, in order to protect the wheels inner tube from its spoke holes.
Tightening & truing.
The wheel then rolls into a special machine, which tightens the spokes and trues the wheel at the same time.
Finally, the tubes & tires are mounted.
The wheel is now ready for tubes and tires, which are mounted and inspected by the technicians. The wheel is done and ready to be installed onto a bicycle.
